In short, this movie crams so much course altering, fan nostalgia and missing explanations of previous films into a breakneck, frantic fan fiction quality story that doesn't convincingly earn it's ending whatsoever. The visuals are often stunning and well done as you sometimes catch a glimpse of what 'could have been, but it ultimately feels like an attempt to rectify too much too late. Unlike Luke or Anakin in George Lucas' previous films, Rey willy nilly conjures up powers and is the best ever at all she does without truly earning her stripes along the way as a very contrived fantasy rendition character of a pig tailed adolescent. Pre-established lore and coherent narrative be damned. If you turn off your brain and have no expectation, you can still see the glaring inconsistencies of this standalone installment but may be mildly entertained by a few concepts here and there. However, if you are a familiar, lifelong fan of the movie franchise, this will feel like a gut punch as you see the lack of forethought, corporate meddling and culture war politics that this once great franchise seemed to transcend under the man George Lucas. Instead of being inspiring, great, and engaging storytelling, it is nothing but a platform and a cash cow under this current regime.
